My name is Spencer Paxson. I have been a student of sport for most of my life. I believe in the positive value of sport, at any age, any ability level, recreational or competitive, as an avenue to a strong community and a healthy, purposeful life.
I had the fortune of growing up with a big back yard to play in - the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. I discovered mountain biking at the age of 12, and what began as a weekend hobby with my parents has since taken me around the world at the highest levels of the sport, including 6-time member of the US National Team at the Elite World Mountain Bike Championships, and 2 times qualified as a member of the US Olympic Long Team. I continue to compete at the elite level and have been a member of the Kona Bicycles Factory Team since 2011. I do not claim to be a "great" cyclist, but cycling has been a great part of my life, and has inspired me to impart some of those good lessons and experiences to my community.
I have been a "professional" athlete since 2011 alongside other careers in geographic sciences and renewable energy project development. My professional background outside of cycling (7 years developing large-scale wind and solar power plants), as well as being a father, allows me a better perspective to appreciate the challenge of blending ambitious personal objectives into a busy schedule. Regardless of my schedule during the work week, I've personally enjoyed the blend of art and science in conditioning my mind and body to achieve athletic and competitive objectives, and realizing the lessons which parlay into other realms of life.
Launching a small coaching business was a way to blend my passions for sport, science, creativity and community. I am motivated by the prospect of empowering clients to know themselves better though pursuit of sport, whether that is getting stronger and faster, or adopting healthy habits to get more out of the things they love to do. No matter the objective, the focus is always toward long term process, exploring personal potential, and good times outside.
